Selling and Making Money with Photos on Photrade

Last year I wrote a post about making money with your photo’s (Earn With Your Photos – Shutterstock + Photrade) which included a short paragraph on Photrade and what they have to offer. Photrade is one of the few start-ups I have written about that is still up and running but not only are they still up and running, they are growing from strength to strength.

Their site caters to pro and amateur photographers alike and you don’t have to go through the rigmarole of submitting your best sample photo’s to be approved as a photo submitter as is the case with the likes of Shutterstock and istockphoto. With Photrade you can upload whatever you want and chose what you share and with whom. They offer a watermarking and theft protection feature so you can be rest assured that people are not getting a hold of and using your images for free.

As far as making money with your photos is concerned, you set the prices for how much you want your photos to sell for and you can set standard prices for all of them or you can set them at an individual level. You get to keep 80% of the markup made on sales; for example, if you sell a photo that has a base price of $1 for $5 you earn $3.20 ($5 sale price – $1 base price = $4 markup – 20% commission = $3.20). People can order various size prints, canvases, merchandise and stock licenses of your images. You really don’t have to be a pro to sell your photos and I have proof; Here is a random photo that I uploaded that has sold on Photrade:

The second way through which you can make money with Photrade is through their adcosystem where photographers get paid a share of the ad revenue generated every time their photos are viewed. This applies to photos viewed on Photrade and anywhere else on the internet where a publisher has grabbed it using the sharing code. Ad revenue is deposited on the 1st of every month for the month before. Earnings are paid out via PayPal (once you have reached a minimum of $15.00) or you can use the balance to purchase items on Photrade.

Photrade also boasts a one of a kind contest platform that allows users to set up and run photo contests. You also get the chance to take part in contest where you can win some really good prizes. At the moment, digital Photography School is running a contest (contest ends – Friday, October 31, 2008 at 00:00 EST) about portraits which amongst other things has a Canon Xsi or Nikon D60 camera with 18-55mm lens (the winners choice) as the first prize. For those of you who have not heard of digital Photography school, it is a site run by Darren Rowse (problogger) with tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your camera.

If you haven’t already taken a look at what they have to offer it is well worth it. Here is a video that explains what Photrade is all about:
