The other day, I was looking around at what kinds of jobs are being advertised at the moment and I was surprised to see the number of positions popping up that have to do with social media. A couple people that I follow on Twitter have even managed to establish themselves as social media specialists and are managing accounts of a few small businesses.
All this got me thinking about the number of people who spend a lot of time on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook and know their way around them and have managed to build up quite a presence. A lot of people do it just for fun but the knowledge that they have acquired through their use of social networks could be used to land them a job as a social media manager. I came across this video of how Kate Buck went from being unemployed to earning hundreds of thousands of dollars. As you can see from the video, she has gone a step further and teaches people how to become social media managers.

@Geri, Social Media Marketing has massively influenced how companies do business and build relationships with their customers. Interestingly like you point out this has also opened up opportunities for people to make money from their knowledge of social media.
This is something social media users should consider to monetize their activities, especially with the current global financial problems.
Sebastian, I agree with you 100% about companies and those that haven’t jumped onto the Social Media train need to do so quickly because it is another avenue through which they can connect with more customers.
They way I see it, becoming a social media manager is something that people who use it frequently should seriously consider.
good post, there are so many phony social media “experts” out there that maybe a way to make money now is recommending the legit ones (if there are any 🙂
Hi Mark, you are right about that. If people are in the market for a social media manager they have to be careful about who they decide to contract out to because as you said, there are a lot of people out there who are not what they say they are and could cause you more harm than good.
