Domain Parking

s thingA couple of weeks ago I registered domain names for projects I am working on of which I will announce once the sites are up and running. In the process of trying to register domain names I got to thinking about parked domains. A lot of the names that I tried to register were already taken with a large portion of them parked.
Domain parking is basically a way of earning money from domain names you have registered and are not using. The domain displays as a page displaying relevant advertisements. You earn money when a visitor clicks on the advertisements.
I thought I would carry out a little experiment to see just how well domain parking works. I went onto eBay! to see if I could get my hands on a few domain names at a really good price. I managed to get my hands on a few for less than US$2 each which included OJSIMPSONFORUM.COM for US$0.01. My next step was to find a place to park them.

Almost all of my domains are registered at www.GoDaddy.com
and most of them are currently parked at Sedo and NameDrive where parking is free. GoDaddy’s parking program (CashParking) charges a monthly fee. CashParking plans start at $3.19/month with you receiving 60%-80% of the click fee revenue depending on your plan. I really don’t see why people would pay to park their domains at GoDaddy when they can do it for free elsewhere. For interest sake I will park a couple of domains with them and compare the results with the other parking services.

That’s interesting… I may try to park a few domains myself. And I never thought to buy domains on eBay, lol. The OJSimpsonForum will probably do really well considering all the drama surrounding OJ once again.
